President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih states most challenges facing the fisheries sector will be resolved by mid 2023.

President Solih made the remarks on Sunday while speaking with the fishermen in Faresmaathodaa during the celebrations to mark Fishermen's Day.

During the meeting, President Solih listened to the concerns raised by the fishermen, including delayed payments and acquiring ice and fuel. The discussions also included challenges in the use of satellite phones as well as banking limitations.

Speaking during the meeting, President Solih highlighted how the past governments had fallen short of catering to fishermen's needs despite the development and progress of fishing vessels. He noted that over the past 10-12 years, only minimal effort has been made to develop the fisheries sector.

President Solih also spoke about the current Administration's efforts to develop the fisheries sector. He assured that the challenges faced by the industry will be resolved by mid 2023. President Solih further highlighted the ongoing projects to upgrade and increase capacity of fish processing plants in the country.

President Solih thanked the fisherment for their support in the Fishermen's Day celebrations at Faresmaathodaa. Fisheries Ministry and Faresmaathodaa Council held multiple activities to mark the day.
