Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has begun investigating corruption allegations against Transport Minister Aishath Nahula.
The case against Minister Nahula was submitted to ACC on November 26 by former Transport Ministry Coordinator Mahmood Shafeeg. He alleged Transport Minister Nahula and Assistant Director Rushuna Rashad of benefitting financially from the vehicle registration at the Ministry.
As such, he accused Minister Nahula of misusing the amendment to the Transport Regulations when registering vehicles.
The allegations stated that letters addressed to Minister Nahula have not been entered into the system for vehicle registration, but that Minister Nahula's signature is on every letter with a note of approval for registration.
Shafeeg's letter to ACC further stated that the vehicles have been imported by a company with prior guarantee of the vehicles being registered. As such the letter also stated that although the letters to Minister Nahula have been written by various people, the wording and format in the letters make it obvious the letters are actually written by the same company.
ACC's Senior Communication Officer Nishan Mohamed Didi told 'One' on Tuesday that ACC will probe into cases that fit the requirements for an investigation. As such, ACC will be investigating the allegations against Minister Nahula and Rushana.
"We are working on collecting documentations in the preliminary stages," Nishan said.
Civil Service Commission had suspended Rushana on 16 November following allegations of registering vehicles outside regulations.
