President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih launched the National Social and Behaviour Change Communications Strategy on Prevention and Promotion of Mental Health Campaign - 'Kihineh?' - on Monday.

The strategy and campaign launching ceremony was held at Dharubaaruge as part of the current administrations policy on preventing and promoting mental health.

Speaking at the function, President Solih stated that mental, emotional, social, and physical well-being of the people have been a top priority for the administration since day one. He added that the administration has ensured inclusive physical mental healthcare services without discrimination for all citizens.

President Solih highlighted the importance of seeking assistance and starting treatment for mental health issues at an early stage. As such, he stated that the 'Kihineh?' campaign would promote behavioural and social change in regards to the current perceptions and attitude towards mental health within society.

President Solih also spoke of the role of family, friends, and society in supporting people struggling with mental health problems.

During the ceremony, President Solih spoke on the current administration's efforts to prevent and promote mental health. As such, President Solih had inaugurated the country's first mental health centre at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in March 2019. Mental health coverage has also been added to 'Aasandha' insurance scheme.

The administration also expanded mental health services to Hulhumale' Hospital in October 2022. Mental health services are also available at five tertiary hospitals under development across the nation.

The 'Kihineh?' campaign launching ceremony was attended by Vice President Faisal Naseem, Cabinet Ministers, the UNICEF Representative to the Maldives, Marjan Montazemi, and officials from UNICEF.
