An alleged case of corruption involving Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Aishath Nahula, and Assistant Director at the Ministry, Rushuna Rashad has been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The case submitted by Mahmood Shafeeq who worked as a coordinator at the Ministry during the tenure of President Abdulla Yameen states that he has received information about Minister Nahula and Rushuna having been receiving monetary benefits through corrupt means to register vehicles at the Ministry.
As such, it noted that vehicles are registered in clear violation of the Vehicle Registry Act, highlighting that letters submitted to the Ministry addressing the Minister to register vehicles are not even entered into the Ministry data sets, while Rushuna completes such registrations in secrecy.
It further alleged that the vehicles were importated by a large-scale vehicle business in the country, who had planned long-term giving the guarantee that the vehicles would be registered successfully. As such, the letters submitted to the Minister also bear the company's stamp. Though the letters are from different individuals, it can be concluded that the vehicles were imported by the same people based on the fonts and phrasing in the letters.
Alleged cases of corruption against Minister Nahula had previously been submitted to the ACC too.
