Police have stated that the bodies of 3 expats who died in the garage fire in Male' City have been sent to their nations.

Speaking at the press conference to provide information on the garage fire and the joint-operation on counter terrorism, Head of Death and Homicide Investigation Department, Inspector of Police Mohamed Samih said that 8 Indians and 2 Bangladeshis had died in the garage fire at M. Nirufehi.

Inspector Samih said the bodies of 3 Indians have been sent back to India.

"We are working on having the rest of the bodies sent back as well," Inspector Samih said.

He added that there were 26 people in the building when the fire occurred.

He further noted that there were 4 rooms on the first floor and 8 rooms on the second floor with makeshift kitchens in every room. Additionally, there was also a room in the garage downstairs and there were 5 people living there.

Inspector Samih said that two people were rescued from the building and sent to IGMH for immediate medical attention. One of them passed away while undergoing treatment and the other is currently still receiving medical treatment at IGMH.
