Telecom giant Dhiraagu has filed a case against Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom) at High Court over the re-broadcasting license issue.
BroadCom revised the re-broadcasting regulation in January 2022 to state that re-broadcasting license will only be given to 100% Maldivian owned companies. As 52% of Dhiraagu shares are owned by Batelco, Bahrain, Dhiraagu has filed a case at High Court to contest the revision.
Dhiraagu was informed in July 2022 that under the new regulations their re-broadcasting license cannot be renewed. As such, DhiraaguTV license will expire in January 2023.
Dhiraagu is seeking to have Clause 8 of the re-broadcasting regulation - which states the conditions to be met by the applicant - annulled by High Court.
