Civil Court has denied Abdulla Rasheed's family their request to seek injunction to halt the autopsy on his body.

Abdulla Rasheed's body is to be flown out tomorrow for the autopsy although the family has constantly voiced against it and filed a motion with Civil Court last Thursday.

Rasheed's family told the Civil Court they want to hold a funeral as soon as possible as per Islamic Shariah, and that police had not informed the family the body will be flown out for an autopsy.

Prosecutor General (PG)'s Office represented Maldives Police Service in the case even though this is a civil matter. The State told the Court that Police has faced a number of accusations in this case. As such, an autopsy is required to conclude if there has been any neglect from the Police in this case, PG Office said. National Integrity Commission (NIC) took a similar stand on the case as well.

Civil Court on Sunday denied the family their motion, stating that although autopsies are not favoured in Islam, in some cases they are permissible. As such, Civil Court Judge Hassan Faheem ruled that Police have the right to conduct an autopsy to determine cause of death.
