Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has challenged the High Court's injunction order on terminating and handing over the Water Theme Park Project at the Supreme Court.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has decided to terminate the agreement with Waterfront Hotel & Leisure Company, which was contracted to develop a Water Park and 6-Storey Leisure Hotel in Hulhumale’.

The corporation is currently seeking to take over the project and has ordered the company to hand over everything related to it. The decision to terminate the agreement made in 2017 was made on August 22. Waterfront Hotel & Leisure Company has however challenged the decision at the Civil Court and is seeking an injunction on HDC’s decision.

While a case related to the extension of the construction period of the project by HDC is ongoing at the Civil Court, HDC has ordered the company to hand over the land within 30 days.

Civil Court had previously noted that an injunction on the decision will affect the verdict in the case, as questions have been raised regarding the agreement period. They further added that Waterfront Hotel & Leisure Company had failed to prove any substantial proof to their claim noting that a handover before a verdict would result in irrevocable damages.

High Court had however issued an injunction order in favor of Waterfront Hotel & Leisure Company, ordering HDC to halt on their order to terminate the agreement and take over the land until a verdict is reached by the court.

HDC has since challened the High Court's decision at the Supreme Court.
