Prosecutor General (PG)'s Office has appealed lawyer Nazim Sattar's sentence at High Court.

PG Office made the appeal on Sunday. The High Court has not yet made a decision regarding the appeal.

PG Office made the appeal on the grounds that Nazim Sattar's sentence was too minimal in his homosexuality case involving the Bangladesh resident Alamghir. Nazim had confessed to engaging in homosexuality and was sentenced on 15 September.

Nazim was sentenced to 1 month 28 days in prison but Criminal Court later revised the sentence to 3 month 26 days of house arrest on Nazim's appeal. The Criminal Court ruling stated Nazim had repented and sought forgiveness as their reasoning for the sentence.

PG Hussain Shameem had previously told 'One' on 25 September that the PG Office is looking into appealing the sentence.

"This is not an issue with the person being sentenced, but rather an issue with the sentencing itself," PG Shameem had said.

PG Shameem had also posted on his personal blog on 24 September that if a person seeks forgiveness before he is sentenced for a crime, as per the Penal Code, he will receive a lighter sentence.

He had also written that it is not new for PG Office to appeal sentences.
