Former President Mohamed Nasheed has decided to take the case of removal of urban forestry from Ameenee Magu to court.

Shunana & Co. LLP revealed that they are taking the case to the court on behalf of Nasheed, who had enlisted their services to pursue action over the matter.

A tweet by the law firm highlighted that a temporary injunction order is being sought, due to the irreparable damages to the environment caused due to the issue.

Opening the parliament sitting last Monday, Nasheed echoed the concerns of several Male' City residents over the removal of trees from the road. He expressed hopes that Road Development Corporation (RDC) and the Ministry of Planning and National Infrastructure would seek out an alternative option.

He then highlighted that if nothing else is done regarding the issue, the only option left would be to take the matter to the court as an individual.

RDC had previously said that the trees are being transferred to Kudagiri, a picnic island being developed for the residents of Male' City. The corporation also highlighted that they will be planting trees for all the trees that are being taken.
