Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has printed new notes of the MVR 50 banknotes due to a decreased stock in circulation.

The central bank confirmed in a statement on Monday that the newly printed banknotes have been deposited in the state treasury, following the arrival of the new stock on September 25.

Printing banknotes due to decreased stock is a normal practice. As such, the MVR five, 10 and 20 notes were also printed before. In addition to the banknotes, MMA had also produced extra coins.

The new banknote series, called “Ran Dhiha Faheh” was launched in January 2016, in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of Maldives Independence in 2015. The new banknotes series are safe and easy to carry, an upgrade from the previous notes.

According to some of the security features of these notes, the serial number will be illuminated by ultraviolet light. The face value of the note is illuminated in ultraviolet light, which is not visible in ordinary light.
