Parliament Government Oversight Committee has decided to summon senior officials of Islamic Ministry and Maldives Police Service (MPS) regarding the violence on International Yoga Day.

Parliament Committee made the decision to summon the senior officials after opposition MP of Maduvvari constituency, Adam Shareef, submitted a motion to investigate the unauthorised letter sent by the Islamic Ministry and to seek out Fatwa Majilis ruling on yoga.

MP Shareef called for investigation into how MPS received a letter from Islamic Ministry asking MPS to put a stop to the Yoga Day events without the knowledge of the senior officials at the ministry.

As such, Mahibadhoo constituency MP Ahmed Thoriq submitted motion to summon the senior officials of Islamic Ministry and MPS for further inquiry.

The International Yoga Day event in June was interrupted after a group stormed the national stadium and attacked the participants.
