Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has revealed that they are ready to charge in the ventilator corruption case after the Anti-Corruption Commission revised some technical errors regarding the case.
Dubai-based Executors General Trading was paid by the Health Ministry to procure 75 ventilators for COVID-19 patients in 2020 for a total of MVR 34 million.
Shameem's statement came during a meeting with Parliament Committee on Judicial Affairs, where the PG was quizzed on ongoing works and challenges. West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef had questioned him regarding the latest updates of the case, as the PGO had sent the case back to the ACC on several occasions.
Answering the question, PG Shameem revealed that there were minor technical errors in the case, which may be minor but due to the nature it could cost the case to the prosecution.
He added that once the errors are revised, those who are involved in the case will be charged.
The ACC has requested PGO to charge Health Minister Abdulla Ameen along with 11 others and had submitted the case to the PGO on four occasions. However, it has been handed over back to the ACC to fix minor errors.
