Former Drug Enforcement Department officer, Abdul Rahman Rafeeu, has confessed to engaging in homosexuality and apologised to the public.
Rafeeu's video with Bangladesh resident Alamghir was leaked in July.
Rafeeu confessed to the charges against him during the closed-door hearing at Criminal Court on Sunday. Following his confession, the judge decided on a fast track litigation.
Prosecutor General's Office media official, Public Prosecutor Ahmed Shafeeu, told 'One' on Sunday that Rafeeu's hearing has been scheduled for 22 July.
The basic penalty for Rafeeu's charge is a prison sentence of 9 months and 18 days. However, the penalty will be reduced owing to his confession, making his sentence seven months and 6 days.
Moreover, if Rafeeu requests a further reduction of his sentence citing no previous criminal records, his sentence would be further reduced. As such, Rafeeu's sentence could be reduced to a one-month jail sentence at the discretion of the judge.
