Former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, has said that it is the duty of the public to elect the most capable people to the parliament.

The former President make the statement at the campaign launch of his son, Faaris Maumoon, for the North Mahchangolhi constituency in the upcoming parliament election.

Speaking at the ceremony, Maumoon said that when electing an MP, it is important to see who is the most capable candidate rather than who has a close connection to.

Maumoon said that no matter who is elected as an MP, that person would have to shoulder the responsibility of their constituency.

He said that voting for a friend, family member or a close political person is not necessary.
