Former prime minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak, has withdrawn his civil case against the government for wrongful prosecution.

Najib's lawyer Firoz Hussain Ahmad Jamaluddin informed the High Court during the proceedings on Friday that the case has been withdrawn. The reasons for withdrawal were not specified.

Malaysian media has reported that with this withdrawal, the only case remaining is the case Najib has filed against former attorney general Tommy Thomas for being the sole defendant in the civil action against him.

Najib is seeking RM 1.9 million in damages, stating that Thomas had committed misfeasance in public office. Najib claimed that Thomas had charged him as part of an agenda against him by the former Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

Najib also claimed that Thomas had advised former prime minister Dr. Mahathir to take civil and criminal action against Najib for his involvement in 1MDB.

Najib is currently serving his sentence in Kajang Prison. He has also sought a stay of execution of his conviction and sentence, pending the hearing of his review application.

Malaysia's apex court had on 23 August rejected Najib's appeal and confirmed his conviction and sentence of 12 years, and RM210 million fine which was imposed by Kuala Lumpur High Court in July 2020.
