Major amendments have been brought to the Taxi Regulation, which mandates the installation of a dash camera that needs to be operating during all service hours, with recordings that need to be kept for a minimum of seven days.

The Taxi Regulation which was published on the Gazzette yesterday noted that taxi service fares and the driving license of the driver need to be displayed in a manner that is clearly visible to passengers. The regulation further added that the vehicles need to maintain a certain level of hygiene, and be air-conditioned.

The regulation details that if the air-conditioning is not working, passengers need to be notified immediately, and a form of ventilation be made possible.

Furthermore, it highlighted that taking additional passengers while there already is one or more passengers in the car is prohibited. For cycle taxis, the regulation made it mandatory to wear an article of clothing with the logo of the taxi center.

The regulation also detailed more on the 'private hire' service. This service can be provided without a taxi center as long as the website or application meets the requirements set by the Ministry.

The regulation comes into effect six months after being published on the Gazzette. It is an offense to operate taxi services in violation to the regulation and comes with the risk of taxi licenses being witheld by the Ministry if found guilty.
