President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that no consensus was reached with former president and Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed, over the referendum for the system of governance, in an exclusive interview with 'One'.

At the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP)'s ongoing Congress, Nasheed submitted a resolution to hold a referendum to once again vote on the system go governance in the Maldives. However, President Solih has revealed that the party has not reached a consensus on this.

Speaking at the Congress, Nasheed called on MDP to go for a referendum to change the system of governance to a Parliamentary system in the Maldives, which has been met with opposition from President Solih and other high ranking members of MDP who have voiced support for the Presidential system in the Maldives.

President Solih has also requested for the submission for referendum to be withdrawn, while more debates on the system of governance are scheduled for afternoon session at Congress.

Speaking to 'One' after the morning session, President Solih gave an exclusive interview in which he said more discussions will be held with Nasheed regarding the referendum.

"We have been discussing and debating on the submission for a referendum during this congress. However, we have not reached a consensus over the different opinions on this. We hope to find a solution that is agreeable to all because this would lead to more disagreements in the future otherwise", President Solih told 'One'.

Today is the last day of MDP congress.
