Malaysia is set to discontinue ceiling price for chicken and chicken eggs starting July 1.
Malaysia's Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, Alexander Nanta Linggi said on Tuesday that the decision was made to stabilise the food supply in the market.
"Chicken prices will be floated and will depend on market forces. The needy group will be assisted later with targeted financial aid," Nanta said. He added that the financial aid details will be announced by the finance ministry.
Additionally, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that Putrajaya will stop subsidies to poultry farmers starting July 1 as well.
