High Court Judge Abdul Rauf Ibrahim resigned from his position on Tuesday, ahead of an impeachment motion at the Parliament.

An official at the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) had confirmed to ONE Online that the judge had indeed resigned on Tuesday.

His resignation comes at a time when the JSC has submitted to the parliament for the dismissal of the judge, after having found him guilty of a disciplinary issue.

The JSC had submitted to dismiss Judge Abdulla Hameed alongside Judge Rauf as well.

According to JSC, both the judges were found guilty of violating Article 152 of the Constitution of the Maldives by accepting government-issued flats at special prices after agreeing to issue a particular verdict in a court case. The commission stated that the government had given the flats directly to the judges without any involvement from the Parliament and that it violates Article 152 of the Constitution, which states that Judges shall be paid such salary and allowances in keeping with the stature of their office as determined by the Parliament.

JSC Highlighted that accepting these flats was in violation of the constitution.

Parliament's Judiciary Committee reviewed the motion and noted that the issue was not investigated adequately and that they were not given the opportunity to respond to the case, and had submitted to the Parliament floor for the case to be sent back to the JSC for proper investigations.
