Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has stated that salary structure revision for lecturers is in the works.

The revised salary structures were officially declared by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Sunday, stating that the decision to increase teacher's salaries is crucial to nation-building, thus fulfilling one of his presidential pledges.

Taking to social media to voice their concerns, some lecturers noted that teachers are trained and educated by them and therefore it is concerning not to be included in the salary structure revision. Lecturers also highlighted that the presidential pledge for salary increments was made for whole education sector.

As such, he noted that the ministry is working on revisions according to the national pay framework and that lecturers will receive an increment in their salaries.

Salary revisions under the national pay framework saw a 82% increase in salaries for Principals, and up to 50% increase in salaries for teachers on Sunday.
