Myanmar's ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been sentenced to five years in jail after a court found the civilian leader guilty in the first of 11 corruption cases against her.
The announcement was made in Myanmar's capital, Naypyidaw, on Wednesday.
The corruption case centred on allegations that Suu Kyi accepted 11.4kg of gold and cash payments totalling USD 600,000 from former Yangon chief minister Phyo Min Then.
Suu Kyi has denied the charges against her.
She has already been sentenced for six years of imprisonment in other cases.
