Russian national carrier, Aeroflot is set to resume direct flights to the Maldives starting May 13th.

Aeroflot suspended international flights following the Russian invasion of Ukraine which prompted several sanctions on Russia by different countries. They are now preparing to resume international operations once again, and will begin direct flights to Maldives in May. With this, tickets can also be booked online via their online website.

The airline had previously requested to resume operations to the Maldives via an official letter, to which the Maldivian government replied and stated that there were no restrictions keeping them from operating flights to the Maldives.

Minister of Tourism Abdulla Mausoom revealed to One Online previously that there is no restrictions on any airline that wishes to operate and that the Maldives will always welcome airlines from different countries. He noted that it is important for Aeroflot to resume its operations in the Maldives soon.

On the 13th of May, all daily scheduled flights are to be resumed on the Airbus A330 and any passenger with a ticket that was booked earlier will be taking a connecting flight from Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Aeroflot had suspended flight operations to Maldives following an escalation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict on March 8, leading to a huge percent drop in tourist arrivals from the Russian market – which had made for 15.8 percent of total arrivals.
