The Russian national airline, Aeroflot, which has brought the highest number of tourists to the Maldives this year so far, has decided to cancel their international flights.
After Russia invaded Ukraine and began attacks, Western powers have placed sanctions on Russian elites, politicians and companies.
Aeroflot issued a statement yesterday that they will be suspending their international flights temporarily, starting on Tuesday. However, domestic operations and flights to Belarus.
The airline also said that they would not be cancelling the tickets returning to Russia after Tuesday.
Meanwhile, statistics from the Maldives Tourism Ministry show 289,964 tourists have visited the country this year so far and 44,055 of those tourists have been from Russia. And the highest number of tourist visits from a single country has been from Russia as well.
