The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 156,903 after another 1,000 people have tested positive.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that from 6 p.m. yesterday to 6 p.m. today, 206 people tested positive in the Male' area along with 596 from the atolls, 109 from the resorts and three from safari yachts.

In the same time frame, 967 people recovered from COVID-19 raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 140,376 with another 16,227 people still in treatment including 49 people in hospitals.

There have been 287 COVID-related deaths in the Maldives that includes 268 locals, 19 foreign nationals. Maldives reported its first COVID-19 related death on 29 April 2020 following the death of an 83-year-old woman.
