The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Maldives has risen to 272 after a a person has passed away in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll Dhangethi.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that a 50-year-old woman passed away due to complications with COVID-19 at 12:24 a.m. last night.

This most recent death has raised the total number of COVID-19 related deaths this month to nine while a total of 254 locals and 18 foreigners have passed away due to the illness in the country. The highest reported COVID deaths on a single day in the Maldives has been on 25 May 2021 where 13 deaths were reported.

The first COVID-related death reported in the country was on 29 April 2020 following the death of an 83-year-old local woman.
