The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in the Maldives has risen to 270 after another person has passed away.
A 42-year-old woman passed away due to complications with COVID-19 at 3:01 a.m. last night.
On 20 January, four elderly people from three regions of the country passed away due to the illness. They were two people from the Laamu Atoll COVID Facility, one from Hulhumale' COVID Facility and one person from the COVID Facility in Addu City.
With this most recent death today, a total of 252 locals and 18 foreigners has passed away so far. The highest reported COVID deaths on a single day in the Maldives has been on 25 May 2021 where 13 deaths were reported.
The first COVID-related reported in the country was reported on 29 April 2020 following the death of an 83-year-old local woman.
