Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Aishath Shauna has said solar panels capable of producing 20 megawatts of energy have been installed across the country in the past three years.
Speaking at the ceremony held yesterday to contract the Home Solar program to Fenaka Corporation, Minister Shauna said that when the current administration took the office, there were 16.5 megawatts of solar and since then, another 20 megawatts of solar have been installed raising the total to 36.5 megawatts.
She said that there are projects ongoing at 11 islands to install 26 megawatts of solar and a 32.8-megawatt solar PV system project in the bid process and a nine-megawatt solar project in pre-tendering.
The Home Solar program assigned to Fenaka Corporation is being carried out by a revolving fund started with MVR 20 million to install solar PV on roofs of 1,000 residential houses.
