The state of the National Public Health Emergency in the Maldives has been extended to 29 January 2022.

By the discretionary powers vested in the Minister of Health by Section 33 of the 7/2012 Public Health Act the Health Minister first declared a State of Public Health Emergency for a period of 30 days on 12 March 2020.

Health Minister Ahmed Naseem noted that the COVID-19 infection continues to spread in the Maldives is still a very real threat and that the state of public health emergency continues. He added that the Director General of Public Health has proposed that several measures need to be taken to control the spread of the virus.

The document signed by Minister Naseem stated that due to these reasons, the Public Health Emergency that was declared in March 2020 will now be extended by an additional month, to 29 January 2022.
