Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is to depart on a visit to Malaysia tonight. The visit is reportedly taking place upon invitation from the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad.

Spokesperson for the Parliamentary campaign of political party Maldivian Reform Movement (MRM), Thazmeel Abdul Samad, spoke to the press today regarding the matter. Thazmeel informed that both Aminath Nadira and Abdullah Kamaluddin will accompany President Maumoon on this visit.

The spokesperson reported that this current visit of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom will be a short one.

Thazmeel further said that the Parliamentary campaign of MRM is to be launched in a ceremony, following President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s return from Malaysia.
