A COVID-19 related death has been reported from Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Thinadhoo.
This is the fifth COVID-related death from the island where four men of the ages 70, 88, 89 and 90 years of age passed away.
An official from the DRM Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital in Thinadhoo told ONE Online that an 84 year old local man passed away at 5:21 a.m. this morning while undergoing treatment at the COVID Treatment Facility. The man was brought in to the treatment facility on 4 October.
ONE Online has learned that the deceased was a resident of Gaafu Alifu Atoll Gemanafushi that was brought to Thinadhoo for treatment.
Maldives saw the highest COVID-related deaths on 25 May where 13 people passed away.
The current COVID death toll in the country is at 235 with 218 locals and 17 foreigners.
