Minister of Home Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdulla, has said that it is important to put national interest over political ideologies.
Minister Imran made the remarks speaking at the Huravee School last night at the function to commemorate Huravee Day; paying tribute to Sultan Hassan Izzudin, who freed the Maldives from South Indian invaders.
At the ceremony, he said that the Maldives is a country with a rich, proud history of great discipline. Sheikh Imran said that religion and country must come first and it is important to put national interest before political ideologies. And if politics comes first, the nation might take a turn towards slavery.
Stating that it would be the hard work today to deliver the country safely to future generations, Minister Imran said that the challenges in the past were based on the situation back then. And when the era changed, we don't have to stand up with guns and swords to protect the religion, but with a sharp mind.
The Home Minister said that foreign influences needs to be faced head on to take on the challenges of the era.
