Employment Tribunal has said that there is no room to rule that the Islamic University of Maldives' (IUM) Deputy Vice Chancellor selections were invalid.

The Tribunal made the ruling in the case filed by Dr. Ahmed Adheel Naseer (Hithadhoo, Addu City) asking the Tribunal to rule that the selection was in violation of the IUM's employment regulations.

Dr. Adheel Nasser is one of the applicants when the IUM opened applications to select three Deputy Vice Chancellors.

The positions were; Deputy Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation.

The after-report from the interview panel said that the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance, Mohamed Mahid Shareef was appointed with 91 percent from the interview as the highest scorer. And Dr. Adheel got 71.58 percent and came fourth.

Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Dr. Saudulla Ali was appointed with 90.32 percent, according to the report, while Dr. Adheel scored 66.76 percent and came.in third. And the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation, Dr. Sheena Moosa was appointed with 85.24 percent and Dr. Adheel came in third with 66.28 percent.

In his case to the Employment Tribunal, Dr. Adheel said that he was discriminated against during the selection and was carried out unfairly and with internal influence, in violation to the IUM's employment regulations.

The Tribunal's decision on Thursday said that basing the selection on academic, talent and experience levels among other things cannot be considered as discrimination.

And since Dr. Adheel cannot prove exactly how he was discriminated against, the tribunal ruled that the selections were valid and will be upheld with no room to order the IUM to restart the process.
