Public Interest Law Center (PILC) has filed a suit at the Employment Tribunal requesting a Court Order against RIX company, to make the employer pay the owed salary to their workers from the resort development at Baa Atoll Bodufinolhu.
A statement issued by the PILC said that they have received information that some of the Maldivian workers at Bodufinolhu has not received their salaries either and two Maldivians have come forward.
PILC said that they have met the Labor Relations Authority and the Maldives Immigration to gather information regarding the withheld payments of 198 Bangladeshi expatriates and two Maldivians. And while a letter has been sent to the Economic Ministry for information, there has been no response as of today.
The PILC statement said that the suit filed at the Employment Tribunal seeks a return in damages and the salaries withheld for months from the employees from the company and arrange the return of the expatriates who wishes to return to their home country.
PILC said that they have met with RIX company have been unable to reach a settlement outside of the court.
