Gaafu Alifu Atoll Villingilli has been placed under monitoring after less than a week after the status was lifted.
Vice President of the Villingilli Island Council, Aishath Nazdha told One Online today that a person who consulted at the island's flu clinic with symptoms had tested positive for COVID-19.
She said that the person who tested positive works at the industrial island of Kooddoo. And he traveled to Villingilli three days ago with a negative PCR test since Kooddoo is under monitoring. And with symptoms surfacing last night, the person was taken to the flu clinic and tested.
Villingilli Council's Vice President said that the test result came in this morning and so contact tracing is underway and the island will be under monitoring unit the tracing process is completed.
Council Vice President Nazdha said that she does not know if the person who tested positive had completed his COVID-19 vaccination.
The lasted ease of restrictions by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) states that a negative PCR test that is less than 72 hours old is required to travel from an island under monitoring to another island without having to quarantine.
The monitoring status on Villingilli was lifted on Tuesday after two months under monitoring.
