Prosecutor General's Office has made a request to hold the password of the former Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed, who left the country during his trial for sexual harassment in the workplace.

Media Official of the PG Office, Ahmed Shafeeu told One Online that a request has been made to the Maldives Police Service to hold the former Tourism Minister's passport and the Police have now filed at the Criminal Court.

Shafeeu said that the request was made since the duration of going abroad during the trial given to Ali Waheed has expired and because the charges against him are serious, the former Minister needs to be brought back to continue the trial.

Ali Waheed is currently in London and is set to continue the hearings through the Maldivian High Commission in the UK.

He has previously requested to continue the hearings online claiming that his medical treatments are ongoing and sent medical documents to the court.

Prosecutor General, Hussain Shameem has previously said that hold a trial of someone who is in a country outside the nation's jurisdiction raises many challenges. And it is not in line with the judicial system.

Ali Waheed was removed from his position after a number of his staff raised allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment.
