One Online has confirmed that the former Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed sentenced to prison in absentia for not appearing in court, is currently at a detention center in the custody of the UK Immigration.

A source close to the situation told One Online that Waheed was arrested on Wednesday for overstaying his visa and is expected to be released from the detention center today or tomorrow.

Ali Waheed has also applied for asylum in the UK.

The former Tourism Minister was removed from office after multiple employees came forward with allegations of sexual harassment. And the hearing in his case set at the Criminal Court yesterday was cancelled as well.
