Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has composed a concept for an amendment that allocates allowances of up to MVR 2500 for unemployed citizens.

The concept that has been drafted by MDP as an amendment to aid those seeking a job, is to be enacted at the upcoming 19th body of Parliament.

The concept dictated that allowances would be allocated based on two categories. The categories are divided based on the baseline of Cambridge Advanced Level qualifications. Those who have lower than an A level certification will be allocated in one category while those who have acquired certification above A level will be in the other.

In addition to educational qualification, training and skill set, the concept is composed to analyze the age of said recipient as well as the number of dependants under the recipient's care. The concept also takes into account the living and residence conditions of the recipient. Allowances between MVR 1500 to MVR 2500 will be allocated based on analysis in these criteria.

The party’s concept included establishing a “Sector Job Center” in efforts to properly monitor and collect information on jobs acquired by citizens based on each sector. The concept proposal declared that the said information will be collected through the various Island Councils.

The concept also proposed an amendment preventing the hiring of foreigners for jobs that maldivians have been recorded to be trained in.

The unemployment allowances will reportedly be allocated to citizens, starting from three months after the amendment is published in the government gazette. The proposal reportedly dictated that job centers need to be published two months from date of being passed and published in the government gazette.
