The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has launched the ‘Rahvehi Tharahgee’ Investment Forum to attract investors for development projects proposed by local councils across the Maldives.
The forum aims to connect investors with councils seeking funding for their development plans. A total of 76 proposals from 27 island councils and city councils are expected to be presented.
The MDP said 40 projects with estimated investment costs have a combined value exceeding USD 306 million.
Thinadhoo City Council has submitted the largest investment proposal, which includes expanding Kaadedhdhoo Airport and establishing a dedicated seaplane hub in the south. The council has also prepared five additional projects to support Thinadhoo’s development.
Malé City Council has proposed projects focused on the environment and public well-being, including a climate park, a waterfront climbing wall and a dedicated exercise area.
Addu and Fuvahmulah City Councils have jointly proposed a project to install solar home battery systems, while Kulhudhuffushi City Council has submitted a solar energy project titled ‘Gedhoshu Engine’.
Addu and Fuvahmulah councils will also seek investors for a total of eight projects, including a modern convention centre in Addu.
