A COVID-19 patient at Dhaalu Atoll Bandidhoo has passed away raising the total number of COVID cases to 176.

One Online has confirmed that the deceased is a 76-year-old local man who has previously undergone numerous major surgeries.

There are currently 54 cases of COVID-19 on Bandidhoo with 53 recoveries.

Maldives reported its first COVID-related death on 29 April 2020 after the death of an 83-year-old woman.

The highest number of COVID-19 related deaths in the country was in May 2021 with 13 deaths on the 25th alone.

After weeks of daily COVID-19 cases over 1000, the card have now dropped below 800 after strict measures on curfews and public gatherings are in place in the Male' City area and the islands under monitoring.
