Health safety measures have been strengthened in eight islands including Addu City and Fuvahmulah City.

Directive issued moments ago, signed by the Director General of Health, Maimoona Abubakur, says that a curfew will be enforced from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. at Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Laamu Atoll Gan, Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo, Gaafu Alifu Dhaandhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Maamigili, Faafu Atoll Nilandhoo and Faafu Atoll Feeali.

The measures have been made more strict due to the continual spread of COVID-19 across the country.

Although the curfews in the islands bans vehicles and people going out in public, security forces and medical services along with those issues permits are allowed to operate. And delivery personnel are given permits to deliver essentials.

The directive also states that those who violate the regulations will be facing repercussions as well.

There are 74 islands in the Maldives currently under monitoring.

Yesterday alone saw 13 COVID-19 related deaths in the country raising the total number of COVID-related deaths in the country to 142.
