An elderly person who passed away at Baa Atoll Eydhafushi has tested positive for COVID-19.

President of the Eydhafushi Island Council, Tholhath Abdul Rahman told One Online today that an elderly person was taken to the island hospital this morning and was dead on arrival. As per procedure, the deceased was tested for COVID-19 and the results came back positive.

He said that the deceased was an 80-year-old man who was being treated for a number of chronic illnesses and another person living at the same house had previously tested positive for COVID-19 and the house was under quarantine.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has ordered that a person with COVID-19 passes away, they are to be buried as soon as possible. And hold small funerals as part of the efforts to control the spread.

So far 193 cases of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Eydhafushi.
