The person sought by the authorities in connection to the bomb attack on the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed has been arrested in Hulhumale'.

After a three-hour operation this morning, the suspect was taken in to the custody of the Maldives Police Service at 7 a.m. this morning at the Hulhumale' Flat 95G02.

One Online has confirmed that the person arrested this morning is the suspect sought by the police in connection to the bombing. At the time of the explosion, he was in front of Athama Palace on Majeedhee Magu.

In the Police operation this morning with a large number of officers, a lengthy time was spent inside the flat to gather evidence. One Online journalists at the scene since 5 a.m. witnessed the forensic team taking out bags of evidence from the flat. Police carried out the operation with teams from different departments and numerous vehicles.

At the press conference yesterday, Police said that the person near Athama Palace is the lead suspect in the bombing.

Police also released video footage of the attack that show the Speaker of the Parliament walk to his car with his security and the bomb explodes as he was about to get in to the vehicle.

At the MNDF press conference on Friday, the Chief of Defence Force, Major General Abdulla Shamaal said that the IED attack on the Speaker of the Parliament was carried out with a remote detonation.
