Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has said that a Maldivian national has been administered a different brand of COVID vaccine as the second dose to their first dose of the vaccine.

At the HEOC press conference today, the Director of the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Ahmed Naasir said that they are in talks with the WHO regarding the dual brand vaccination situation.

He said that they are also working to prevent another such incident and the person who received two different brands of COVID-19 vaccine is being closely monitored.

The HPA Director said that the research so far indicates that the person would not have severe effects from getting two different brands of vaccines and still receive the same benefits of getting two doses of the same brand of vaccine. And no further details were offered as the case is being investigated.

The photos of the vaccination card in question circulating on social media show that a person received China's Sinopharm vaccine as the first dose and India's Covishield as the second dose.
