Kaafu Atoll Maafushi Health Center has said that the island has COVID-19 community spread.

The island was placed under monitoring yesterday after a person who consulted at the Maafushi Flu Clinic with symptoms tested positive.

A high ranking official from the Maafushi Health Center told One Online today that the total cases at the island has reached 11 with eight people who consulted at the Flu Clinic and three people who were in direct contact with them.

The official said that as of yesterday evening, 140 random samples were collected from the island and results of 45 samples have come in so far.

Yesterday, the Maafushi Health Center said that the first person to test positive for COVID-19 on the island had not traveled recently. And so, it is yet unclear how the person contracted the virus.
