Kaafu Atoll Gulhi has been placed under monitoring after a person who was not in quarantine tested positive for COVID-19.

President of the Gulhi Island Council, Mohamed Fathuhulla told One Online today that person who tested positive is a pregnant woman. He said that the woman is in good health and is not exhibiting major symptoms so far.

The Island Council President said that the woman was tested under the advisement of a doctor following an online consultation.

Today, the island of Maafushi was placed under monitoring as well after a person tested positive.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said that Gulhi has been closed off for the purposes of contact tracing and case investigation.

While the number of COVID-19 cases reported in the Maldives has exceeded 26,000 it has been spreading rapidly in the island's with 17 islands under monitoring right now as well.
