The state of Public Health Emergency in the Maldives has been extended till May 4th.

By the discretionary powers vested in the Minister of Health by Section 33 of the 7/2012 Public Health Act the Health Minister first declared a State of Public Health Emergency for a period of 30 days on 12th March, 2020.

On March 4th, the period was extended until April 4th.

Health Minister Ahmed Naseem noted that the risk of infection in the Maldives is still very real and that the state of public health emergency continues. He added that the Director General of Public Health has proposed that several measures need to be taken to control the spread of the virus.

The document signed by Minister Naseem stated that due to these reasons, the Public Health Emergency that was declared in March 2020 will now be extended by an additional month, till May 4th.
