The Maldives Police Service has issued an advisory regarding safety measures during swimming and doing other activities in the sea.
A statement released by Maldives Police Service today noted that there has been an increase in the frequency of fatal incidents while swimming around the waters of Maldives.
Therefore Police have advised extra caution for children, elderly and tourists while swimming. The police have also said that the currents are increasingly strong in different areas of Maldives as this is the north-east monsoon season at this time. Policed have advised that safety measures need to be taken for inexperienced swimmers, especially for young children.
The Police have also announced that the respective government authorities have come together to work on decreasing the frequency of drowning incidents
A Russian woman had drowned recently while swimming. A Pakistani tourist had also had a near-drowning incident but is reportedly in recovery.
