MDP Chairperson in charge of managing primary elections, Ibrahim Waheed, has said that the party regulations does not bar MDP leadership from endorsing any specific candidates in the primaries.
The MDP primaries deciding party tickets to go in to upcoming Parliamentary Elections took place the past Friday where some MDP leaders took to endorsing various candidates of their choosing throughout the campaign, some candidates that lost in the primary re expressing their grievances.
Speaking on Rajje TV’s “Fala Surukhi” program, Ibrahim Waheed, said that no candidate had submitted any complaints during the campaign that the country's President or party leaders were endorsing candidates. He noted that the complaints only started coming out following the end of the MDP primaries. He also said that there is no rule barring party leaders from endorsing any candidates in MDP.
Waheed said however that these issues are something that can be challenged in the future by proposing these grievances to the MDP National Council. He said that the Council will be able to bring about changes to the party’s rules and regulations. Waheed assured that the party’s National Council will give the complaints due process, no matter who submitted it.
While the incumbent results of the MDP primaries have been announced, Chairperson Ibrahim Waheed, said that the official results will be announced throughout the next three days. While a total of 62 percent of the people who were registered at MDP voted, the primaries had 280 candidates putting their name in to run in the Parliamentary Elections.
