Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has called to prioritize national peace over the party’s peace. He said that the coalition of four political parties joined together to established a just governance that fulfills the people’s expectations.
President Maumoon made the statement on Twitter this morning.
A second tweet sent out today reiterated that it is a national obligation to maintain and strengthen the coalition and to not let it fall apart. He also said that this is a significant responsibility of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the four leaders of the coalition.
While President Maumoon has said this, President Solih had spoken in front of an MDP campaign hall following the conclusion of the primaries stating that the hardest workers for bringing on this presidency are in MDP.
One of the coalition leaders, Qasim Ibrahim, sent out a tweet yesterday that indicated that Jumhooree Party (JP) may be splitting from the coalition as well.
The tweet by Qasim said that MDP had thrown JP aside after winning the Presidency and that JP is prepared to speak to anyone who would go against MDP in the upcoming Parliamentary elections.
